When it comes to Communism, history textbooks rarely mention much more than Stalin’s “totalitarianism” and the Siberian gulags. Yet, throughout the twentieth century, activists fought around the world in the name of this ideal.
By focusing on communist posters in Belgium, this exhibition allows us to look at their social and political struggles, some of which are still very relevant today.
The posters also show how the Belgian Communists have depicted themselves. And, finally, the posters offer very beautiful examples of documents which are to be submitted to critical analysis.

An exhibition organized by the Centre d’Histoire et de Sociologie des Gauches of the ULB and the CArCoB (Centre des Archives communistes en Belgique), in collaboration with ULB-Culture, the IHOES (Institut d'histoire ouvrière, économique et sociale) and the Mundaneum.
